World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (WoW WotLK) has now been released, and lots of people are already playing it! There are new zones, death knight, new battle grounds and 10 new levels to pound your way through.

What’s the best and fastest way in leveling from 70-80?
The fastest way to level up is through doing quests, and the challenge is to find the fastest way to do most of the quest in the least possible amount of time. This means that getting and finding the fastest route available. This is a fair playing ground for all players to be in the same playing field. But because of beta servers, there are lots of warcraft players that were able to experience WoW WotLK ahead of the rest. They have an edge in being familiar with the new zones, new dungeons, and many more. Those who get to the cap of 80 quickly will find themselves alone in the end instance and type raids, and they will be reaping all the rewards. But for those who will experience 70-80 for the first time will probably grind their way to that cap of 80.

Now there are those people who are in beta who mapped out the new quests, battled through the 10 levels in order to discover what to do, keep notes on their routes, then help others on quests on the expansion. And some of them have released their own guides to help improve the game.

What will this do for your leveling from 70-80?
This will mean that you will have a reference for the quests, you will have someone who will share their knowledge and familiarity of WoW WotLK through the beta, and share their idea on how to get to level 70-80 in the least possible amount of time.

Leveling in Wrath of the Lich King will now be easy for two groups :
1. Those who were included in the beta and were familiar with the Northrend area and death knights, as well as the professions, quests, and many more.
2. Those that receive help from those who were included in the beta to level the playing field.

Personally, I’m not a fan of game guides. I don’t think they do much other than ruin the content for you before you get there. So, I was surprised when I discovered that WotLK Secrets was anything but a big spoiler filled, fluff ridden guide that didn’t do much other than make the game less fun. Think of it more like a GPS device on a road trip. It gives you directions and guidance when you ask it to without telling you everything you’re about to see.

To start with, the guide covers all the basic aspects of the game’s new content. You will learn how to start a Death Knight, how to master Inscription, what you will face in all the new raids, all the new glyphs you have access to, ins and outs of the new achievement system, the changes to your classes, and whole lot more really nifty, really useful new details.

It’s really been an invaluable resource for me as I’ve leveled and that’s saying a lot from someone who doesn’t usually like guides very much.

Leveling in Northrend will be the next hurdle every World of Warcraft player will have to get over. With a whole new world available it will be interesting to see just how effective we’ll all be at it. While many of our community have already had a first crack at Northrend because of the beta server many of us have not. That being said it’s safe to expect a few people to catapult themselves to 80, having had some exposure to WOTLK, knowing the lay of Northrend and yes even the quests. Those who manage to level from 70-80 quickly will find themselves alone in the end game type raids and instance reaping all the rewards and leaving many behind in the dust, while those who are going to be experiencing leveling from 70-80 for the first time will most likely have to grind there way to level 80. The question on many peoples’ minds is, “How can I level from 70-80 the fastest?”

The answer is actually quite simple. Get yourself a Warcraft Leveling Guide or Guides.
There were those people in the beta release who were there to have fun and scope out the new toys and gear. Then there were those people who, for the good of us all, mapped out the new quests, battled through the 10 levels from 70-80 to discover what to do and to help others on quests in teh new WOTLK expansion.

Four groups in particular have poised themselves as the leaders in the field of leveling guides and specifically in the field of WOTLK leveling guides. Zygor Guides, iDemise, Joana’s World and Dugi’s leveling guides are all slated to come out with releases/updated for the expansion pack the day it hits the shelves.

What does this mean for your leveling from 70-80?

This means that not only do you have someone on the inside who’s gone through and provided notes on quests and the fastest ways to level from 70-80, you actually have several teams that have incorporated them into already successful leveling guides.
All four guides are well established in the World of Warcraft community and have only solidified their places with the near instant updates for WOTLK.

Leveling in WOTLK will now be a breeze for two groups of people:
1. Those that had exposure to the beta servers and know the new Northrend area as well as the quests; and,
2. Those that get their own WOTLK leveling guide to level the playing field.

Alas, those who do not will eventually level from 70-80, but perhaps weeks after the first surge of people have already hit the magical level 80.
Those are the groups you can fall into, I know which one I’m in (2).

We’ll have to see just how long the next 10 levels take to achieve, but if the old 60-70 leveling is any indication; we’re talking weeks if not months.

Like many World of Warcraft players I wrestled with the idea of diving into another expansion – WoW WotLK. I figured I’d made it to level 70, done some damage in the Battlegrounds and Arena, been around for a lot of the well known happenings like Leroy Jenkins and “More DOTS!”, and heard more Chuck Norris and Murloc jokes than one man ever should be subjected to. Maybe it was time to hang up the Druid and do something else?

I’d told myself that once Burning Crusade came out I’d max out a character, run a bunch of end game content, and be done with it. I mean, for the love of Pete, is there ever going to be an end? Will we see expansion number 23 where the level cap is increased to 1400, everyone gets a bazooka and our pets will have families and pets of their own? Is there ever going to be an end? I’m guessing the answer to this is as long as Blizzard is making money it will keep going and going and going.

A common gripe about the World of Warcraft is the whole “spending too much time” thing. For those that don’t play most of the stuff they hear about WoW is in the media. Most of the “coverage” is about addicts who sit at the keyboard for 100 hours a week and a few horrible examples of actual violence in the real world related to something that happened in game. These examples, while they may make “good” television, are by far the exception rather than the norm. I know several people that play and among them the average hours per week played is roughly 10 hours. Do you know how many hours of TV does the average American watch a week? About 30. The average American watches over 4 hours of television a day (seriously, look it up!). Not interacting or thinking or trying to solve puzzle problems or doing anything but sitting and starting at a screen for 1/6th of every day. It’s stunning.

Back to the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and the decision. I really get a kick out of playing WoW as a casual player. It’s fun. You get to blow stuff up. There is a decent amount of thought and problem solving that’s needed when playing at the higher levels, especially when you get into raid situations. There is an odd online subculture within the game that can, at times, be really amusing. It’s a hobby that I happen to share with 11 million others and overall, compared to lots of hobbies, it’s pretty cheap. Try and find a hobby that can keep you enthralled for hours and that you can do as much as you want of for less than a dollar a day. It’s not easy.

So, as you’ve probably guessed by now, I’ve recently purchased the expansion. Is it the best thing ever? I’m not sure yet. Is it the coolest expansion ever to be produced by any online game ever? Not sure. Is it worth it? Look at it from a purely financial angle. This expansion is meant to last at least a year and a half, if not longer, before the next one. So spreading the cost of that expansion out over 18 months comes to $2.22 a month. Adding in the monthly WoW membership cost of $15 a month you’re looking at a cost of less than $18 a month, or 60 cents a day.

A coke costs well over a dollar and cup of coffee over 2 dollars. A movie ticket for one is around $10, add in popcorn, a candy bar and a drink and you’re very close to $18 for just a couple of hours.

So is it worth it? I’d say, without a doubt, yes. You’ll get to check out some new content, run around with your friends, and stay out of trouble for a bit. And don’t forget all the free Chuck Norris jokes and those hilarious movie name discussions where everyone replaces a word with Murloc. (”Saving Private Murloc!”). Does it make any sense? Not really. And you just can’t put a price on amusing nonsensical entertainment. Thanks!
